The Insurance Crime Bureau recently welcomed Garth De Klerk as the new Chief Executive Officer. Garth is a seasoned veteran of 18 years within the insurance industry, possessing a wealth of knowledge in strategic development and change management. In preceding positions as a CEO, he has contributed positively to both the profitability and long-term organisational sustainability in several organisations, attracting him both national and international recognition.  According to Garth; “it is a privilege to be able to be part of the fight against organised crime. At The Insurance Crime Bureau we have exclusive access to key stakeholders, allowing us to really make an impact in the fight against fraud in the insurance industry”.

The vision of The Insurance Crime Bureau remains one of being the fusion centre, and leading authority, on fighting organised insurance crime. As part of the organisations ongoing efforts to materialise this vision it will increase its efforts in detecting fraud and educating the public about insurance crimes and the impact of fraud. The main aim being to successfully identify, prosecute and convict the perpetrators of organised insurance fraud and crime.

 Part of The Insurance Crime Bureau’s ongoing plans to intensify the organisations fight against insurance crime will be continued investment in expanding the current member base, developing systems, processes and human capital. The Insurance Crime Bureau aims to be a proactive organisation, directing its efforts towards identification of trends in insurance fraud while maximising the use of data and systems to predict future patterns and reduce opportunities for syndicates.  The zero tolerance stance of The Insurance Crime Bureau will position the Bureau well to illustrate to the world that it will continue to play a principal role with Government in the fight against crime.

Mr. Hugo van Zyl, The Insurance Crime Bureau Chief Operations Officer, welcomed the appointment of Garth and was quoted as saying that he was “looking forward to a productive working relationship with Garth, which will only serve to strengthen the continued fight against organised crime within South Africa”. In echoing the sentiments of the late President Nelson Mandela Hugo states: “The business sector could make a valuable contribution in supporting Government in combating crime, and the causes of crime, by the transfer of knowledge and the development of skills and capacity through a public private partnership,” he further qualified the above sentiment by affirming that The Insurance Crime Bureau intended pursuing added relations with Government across various platforms which included taking existing initiatives to the next level.

As incoming CEO Garth is keen to take this opportunity to further intensify the Bureau’s efforts to combat insurance crime, while saving both the insured and the uninsured people of South Africa millions.  According to Garth “being a part of an organisation that is pivotal in the fight against insurance crime is rewarding both professionally and personally”. Garth is supported with well wishes from The Insurance Crime Bureau Board and Chairman, Mr. Ronnie Napier, who sincerely believes that “this will be the start of a new and exciting chapter for The Insurance Crime Bureau”.
