Cross Border Smugglers Header


A foreign national has appeared at the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates' Court, on a charge of the possession of suspected stolen property.

The accused was arrested during a multidisciplinary, intelligence driven operation by the Hawks' Tactical Operations Management Section, with assistance from the Insurance Crime Bureau, Tracker Connect, GTP Saturation Unit and other industry partners.

Following intelligence gathering, information on the syndicate who are allegedly smuggling stolen vehicles into neighbouring Countries, led the teams to an agricultural premises in Bapsfontein. As the teams approached the premises, the suspect attempted to flee and evade arrest but was successfully intercepted and apprehended following a high-speed chase.

An investigation was conducted on the scene which led to the recovery of a number of vehicles that were hijacked in different parts of the Country, numerous vehicle registration documents, false registration plates and cell phones.

More arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation is ongoing.
