Alleged Vehicle Hijacking Mastermind Arrested
A man believed to be a mastermind in the theft and hijacking of high-end vehicles that are smuggled into neighbouring Countries has been arrested in Johannesburg.
During an intelligence driven operation by the South African Police Service Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Soweto, with assistance from the Insurance Crime Bureau, SAPS Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit, Tracker Connect and other industry partners, acted on intelligence and arrested the suspected mastermind.
The multi-disciplinary team were mobilised to intercept and arrest the man suspected to be behind the theft and hijacking of high-end vehicles that are smuggled across our borders and into neighbouring countries. The suspect who is a foreign national, was found in possession of several suspected stolen vehicles, multiple vehicle registration documents and passports were also seized, after further investigation led the team to the suspect's place of residence.
He was arrested and charged with the possession of suspected stolen / hijacked vehicles, with more suspects expected to be arrested pending further investigation.
