Hawks Murder


During an intelligence driven operation by The East Rand Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team of the Hawks, Gauteng Traffic’s Special Law Enforcement Unit with assistance from the Insurance Crime Bureau, Ekurhuleni Metro Police's Saturation Task Team and other industry partners, assisted in the arrest of four suspects wanted in connection of the murder.

The suspects were linked to the carjacking, kidnapping and murder of the police officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sikhetho Mawila, whose remains were found in Tsakane on Monday 8th January 2024.

The joint operation made by a multidisciplinary team resulted in the arrest and seizure of personal belongings of the deceased such as a service pistol with live ammunition, a cell phone, laptop, wallet, a pair of running shoes and other personal items. The burnt vehicle that was hijacked was also recovered.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime investigation, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya applauded the collaborative work of the teams. “We appreciate the efforts and the speed within which the joint team made the arrest ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice to account for their conduct”.
