Three Suspects Killed During Shoot Out

A member of the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) was fatally wounded and three suspects killed in a shoot-out, which took place during a sting operation.

During an intelligence driven operation, officers had received a tip-off about suspects who were in possession of illegal, high calibre firearms that were kept in a shack at an informal settlement in Lusaka, Mamelodi. As the TOMS Team tactically approached the house, the suspects opened fire and a shootout ensued fatally wounding an officer.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lt Gen Godfrey Lebeya expressed his heartfelt sadness in the loss of such a dedicated member of the Hawks. "The proliferation of illegal firearms in our communities results not only in the murders of innocent people but also robs us of the lives of police officers who have sworn to defend this country and its inhabitants”.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the selfless dedication and sacrifice that Law Enforcement Officials demonstrate every day in the pursuit of keeping South Africa safe. Their unwavering commitment to upholding the Law and maintaining order is nothing short of heroic. They place themselves in harm's way to protect us, often dealing with dangerous and unpredictable situations that most of us can only imagine. Your courage and bravery are an inspiration to us all.
