The Insurance Crime Bureau is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. John Melville as the new Chairman of the Board, effective 1st July 2024. John brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership, positioning him to guide the organisation in its ongoing mission to combat insurance fraud and the related crimes in South Africa.

"I am honoured to have been invited to serve as the Chairman of the Board of the SA Insurance Crime Bureau. After more than 15 years, this organisation has established itself as a leading player and intelligence hub in the fight against organised crime in South Africa. While its focus has, of necessity, been the insurance industry, its impact has been felt far more widely and it has become a trusted partner across the value chain of the fight against crime in South Africa.

In serving an organisation like the Insurance Crime Bureau, I am conscious of the huge debt of gratitude that we owe to those who have led the organisation in the past. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my predecessor, Ronnie Napier, a doyen of the insurance industry, who played a fundamental role in founding and leading the ICB in its first 15 years.

The next chapter for the ICB will certainly be an exciting one. Digital technology, access to extensive data resources, and the rapid development of analytics and artificial intelligence tools present an unprecedented opportunity to track, prevent, and respond to crime effectively. Coupled with the depth of the ‘on the ground’ experience of our staff and the strength of our partnerships with key stakeholders both inside and outside of Government, we will continue to generate huge benefits for our Members and for South Africa in general. The effective reduction of crime is a critical strategic priority for our country and will be a key catalyst for the future economic prosperity of our nation."

- John Melville

The Insurance Crime Bureau would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Mr. Ronnie Napier, the outgoing Chairman of the Board, for his outstanding service and dedication. Under Ronnie’s leadership, the organisation has achieved significant milestones, which have laid a strong foundation for future success.

“Ronnie has been an exemplary leader and a guiding force for the organisation,” said Garth de Klerk, CEO of the Insurance Crime Bureau. “I would like to thank Ronnie for his efforts, contribution and guidance that he provided to the organisation as well as to myself as an individual. His contributions have been instrumental in shaping our strategies and initiatives and we are profoundly grateful for his commitment, vision and leadership. He has made a substantial contribution to the industry and we will continue to benefit from his legacy for many years to come.”

The Insurance Crime Bureau remains committed to its mission of reducing insurance crime through innovative solutions, collaborative efforts, and industry-leading research. With John at the helm, the organisation is poised to continue its legacy of excellence and integrity.
