Vehicle theft syndicate dealt a blow

Police in Gauteng have arrested two people who are believed to be members of a major vehicle theft syndicate.

During an intelligence driven operation consisting of the Hawks' Tactical Operations Management Section, with assistance from the Insurance Crime Bureau, Gauteng Traffic's Saturation Unit, SAPS Ekurhuleni Tactical team, SAPS Johannesburg K9, SAPS Gauteng Province Serious and Violent Crimes unit and other industry partners, acted on intelligence and arrested the suspects.

The suspects were found in possession of electronic devices used in the theft of motor vehicles as well as three military grade signal jammers were recovered.

The team proceeded to secure and search the premises from where the suspects came and discovered more stolen vehicles, Vehicle VIN labels, multiple false registration plates, vehicle registration papers, device used to start vehicles without tempering with its electronics but without a key, gloves and cellphones which were all confiscated.
